Hello All Gentlemen in the UK!
I'm a native of Atlanta but now reside in Alabama. I'm 1/4 Scottish and have always wanted to make it my home, particularly here in midlife -- my grandfather emigrated here from Golspie, Strathspey, Sutherland, and I've been to Scotland four times. Ultimately want to live there for good. I keep feeling it calling me home.
I'm an intelligent, funny-bordering-on-silly/outrageous person, but finding myself here in mid-life, I have come upon a few of life's bad habits and natural disasters.
I'm not much of a decorator or neat freak (translated: my house is a mess and right now I just don't care); and I'm not a great cook (unless I have help, then it's fun). I'm non-materialistic and absolutely loathe shopping and "girly-girl" activities; I dislike watching sports; I have very few friends because I don't like a lot of people wandering around in my life; I use correct English because I so love and appreciate language in general that I can't stand hearing it mangled. I don't have lovely long fingernails that I keep perfectly polished, because I play guitar and, well, you can't have it both ways; I'm not a trendy person or a fashion maven -- I am extremely frugal except when it comes to dining out, which, to me, is a sensual experience; I need a lot more time alone than most people and tend to go into "escape mode" sometimes just so I can regroup and be by myself, which so many people don't get, and I can certainly see why; I mix well when I have to but generally dislike parties and "going out"; I do not like boating, tanning, going to the beach to lie in the scorching, unrelenting sun, and I am pretty intolerant of extreme heat in general.
Enjoy swimming, watching films, reading, the paranormal; discussing philosophical subjects, target shooting, ancient cultures, history, science, bicycling, meditation, exploring caves, the forest, trees, playing table tennis, pool, and if there's a trampoline around, I'm very happy. I'm a geneology nut as well.
Though something of a loner, I have an insightful, inquisitive, well-rounded personality. I am one of those students of life who functions best when engaged in a secure, long-term relationship.
I also have a very silly, childlike side and have never really "grown up," and don't want to -- I've always remembered how to just play -- I'm not much of a "let's go here and do this and then let's do this," person. Very homebody-ish. I love cats and share my life with one female feline right now.
Music and books are my anchors. They bring me back to myself if I venture too far away and feel somewhat lost. They bring peace. My appreciation of artistic, imaginative talent keeps me sane in this very crazy world.
I'm Catholic, but not a churchy person at all. I have a very personal belief in God in the Judeo-Christian way, but I think the world's religions are fascinating on a historical, educational level; to me, they show us how we are really all so connected, not how we are different.
